(Law would be light (or dark) or Earth in which case light would then be Early Childhood Education. (The fisher has water pokemon, the hiker has rock pokemon.) Or maybe base it on what the tamer studies in school. Similar to random trainers in Pokemon would be nice. It's over-used and doesn't make much sense in Digimon.
PLEASE do not use mythical and medieval themed classes. (crazy idea: maybe your Class can limit your evolutions if you do this, don't forget to explain it clearly in a FAQ or in the First Steps) Don't be afraid of mixing evo lines or repeating Digimon in different lines, and add as many possibilities as you can. as much as Story games emulates the 'collect em all' thing), it would be better to use the Digimon Story games system, so you could end with almost any Digimon you like through degenerating/evolving. Evolution/Having one partner: if you are sticking to the "only one partner" feature (which I agree with, since this is not Pokemon.
Or, if you are going to introduce a Class, use jobs to define them (ie Student - Lazyness and Free time / Mechanic - Affinity for Metal Empire) We are talking about 21st Century, so knights and archers might be a bit old-fashioned if you're not creating a Medieval Digital World. Use instead "traits" to customize the Class, like Oblivion/Skyrim does.
Class: don't focus on your standard RPG. I think your suggestions would work, but here is my opinion regarding: I can't play Digimon official games because. Does anyone have any questions? Comments? Is this something anyone would actually be interested in playing, or just a total vanity project for me? I'd love to hear from you guys. Well, I'll post the rest that I've got tomorrow probably. But should it work like Digimon World, with a lifespan programmed in, and after it dies it reincarnates into a new egg? Or maybe it should work more like Digimon World 3, where you learn new evolutions as you meet the requirements, and you can switch between them between battles? Or maybe it should be more like the Digimon Story games, and you can evolve and degenerate as needed? I need to think on this more, so any thoughts would be appreciated. There's a lot more, but my network is being a little screwy, so I'll cut it short with a question:ĭoes anyone have any ideas on how evolution should work? I mean, I've got the basics different evolutions will have different requirements such as stats, friendship, Data (Meramon might require Fire Data, for instance), and when you reach those requirements, your Partner can evolve. So, a Paladin gets a Virus Busters Field, a Dark Knight a Nightmare Soldiers, a Ranger Nature Spirits, etc. I'm thinking the classes would be based around a theme of the various Fields in addition to any Class abilities and whatnot, your class determines what sort of Field your Homestead is built on. When you create a Tamer, you pick a Class. So a wooden fence would require so much Wood data, a Cathedral would require Light data, etc. My thought is that the main resources are the ten elements from Frontier. You deal with resource management, farming, building various structures to add to your homestead (fences to increase Defense, bigger farms for more food output, housing for recruited Digimon, etc.), data mining (how you get your resources), etc. You only get one Partner (at least at a time I'll address this further in), and your Homestead is basically your home base. My thought is, every Tamer has a Tamer Homestead and a Partner. I've got a basic plan of how the game would work, but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I've worked a little bit on one of these before, so I know the basics about how to do it. Text and still images is probably about as much as I can do. So I figured I'd start on a browser based adventure/strategy game. So this time, I figured I'd start on a side project between gigs, in order to keep my skills current and also just because I get a kick out of it. So everytime I get one, I have to add several days just to get re-acquainted with everything and, it's just a pain. So, as I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm a web programmer who has often has a loooooong period without any programming gigs.
